Meet our beautiful bride Barbara whose dreamy  wedding was in River lee hotel on new years eve. Barbara wore the Selma dress by Maria Fekih. We asked Barbara a few questions about choosing her dress and styling her unique look for her very special day.

Wow Barbara! You looked beyond beautiful in your dress and skirt. Was it the style you had always imagined you would choose for your wedding day?

The dress I chose wasn’t the style I thought I’d go for but only because in my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful gown. I had a simple, full-length, classical style dress in mind but after trying the Selma on, there was no turning back.

When did you know it was the dress for you?

I think I knew the dress was for me the second Sorcha zipped it up. I felt an almost intangible connection to it. It’s such a cliché, but it was like it was made for me.

Who did you bring to your bridal appointment? Did they help you decide on your dress?

I was lucky enough to have two appointments. I invited my sister and my best friend to the first visit. They loved all the dresses I tried on, but they were blown away by the Selma gown. I brought my mother to the second appointment. My
Mom is incapable of hiding her true feelings (even with a mask on), so I was a little worried she wouldn’t like it. Thankfully, she loved it! Their approval made ordering the dress a no-brainer.

What would you say was your overall wedding style? What were your inspiration sources for your planning?

I wanted to lean into the Scandinavian charm of the dress so we kept it really clean and minimalistic. We went for Wintery neutrals like ivory, champagne and gold for the flowers and décor.

How did you accessorise your dress? Tell us all the jewellery and shoe details!

I wore the Jimmy Choo Sabine pumps with all-over pearl embellishment. They were very comfortable, but I did change into the Kurt Geiger Olive Eye flat mules about an hour into the dancing. My feet were a little tired, but I also wanted to protect my beautiful pearls from getting stomped on. I kept my jewellery very simple. I wore the Charlotte Lebeck Drewy Hoop Earrings and cuff from Loulerie.

Any underwear tips for our brides to be?

I wore the Low back Bodysuit with Legs from Peaches and Cream. I’m a full D cup and I was a little worried the bra part of the bodysuit wouldn’t support my chest fully, so I wore Breast Lift Tape from Bye Bye Bra underneath. No matter what size you are, there are solutions out there to suit you.

Any special moments you treasure from the day?

I really enjoyed the few minutes I got to spend with my Dad before we walked
down the aisle. He was probably chatting to calm my nerves, but I felt very present and grounded by it. From that point on, the day just seemed to race past.

If you could give brides-to-be one piece of solid advice?

Try on your dress before the big day and practice posing in the mirror. Find the angles in the dress you feel flatter you most. You’ll find yourself in all kinds of positions when taking photographs on your wedding day, but you’ll be able to pop into the poses you know work for you and your dress. Don’t forget to practice/pretend holding a bouquet. It can feel a little awkward carrying a big
bunch of flowers in your hands so any rehearsing you can get in ahead of time
will be so worth it.

Who did your hair, make up and photography?

Hair: Lynsey O’Leary
Makeup: Laura Campbell
Photography: Emma Jervis

Now that you have come through it and pulled off such a beautiful wedding, do you have any tips for brides to be navigating planning a wedding in Covid times?

I envy brides who got married before Covid. It really was quite difficult at times. All you can do is create a day that you and your partner will enjoy. Order the food you like to eat, get a band that plays the music you love to dance to and of course buy the dress that makes you look and feel like a goddess! If you tailor the wedding with just you and your partner in mind, no matter what happens with Covid, you’ll have the best day.
