Meet Maddie, one of our utterly gorgeous brides, who got married on a summer’s day in Cork. Maddie chose our Selma gown by Maria Fekih , talk about a dress being absolutely made for you! Maddie radiates effortlessly elegant vibes and Maddie’s style paired with Maria’s clean, Scandinavian lines and luxe fabrics was a match made in bridal heaven!

We asked Maddie some questions about her wedding style, how she knew her dress was the one for her and if she has any advice for other brides-to-be.

Maddie, we love your dress choice…obviously! Was it the style you set out looking for or were you surprised with your choice?

I must say I was surprised by my choice! I didn’t have a particular style in mind. I was happy to try different styles but I would never have imagined myself in the dress I chose. I hadn’t seen anything like it before and I very nearly didn’t try it on but my god I’m glad I did! The minute I tried it on I knew there was something special about it! I loved how simple yet detailed it was. It was so easy to wear and had pockets… What more could you want!? My mum came with me to my bridal appointment; we have similar taste when it comes to fashion so I knew I could trust her opinion.

The Selma dress is such a classic beauty. What would you say was your overall wedding style?

I would describe our wedding style as classic. I wanted our wedding to feel timeless. My bridesmaids and Mum wore ivory and the flowers were ivory and green. The men wore black-tie which we felt complemented this classic style nicely.

How did you accessorise your dress? Tell us all the jewellery and shoe details!

I wanted to keep my look quite simple. I wore a long plain tulle veil and pearl earrings from The White & Gold. I have a gold bracelet given to me by my mum which featured as my “something old” (it was originally my great grandfathers watch strap). My shoes were Jimmy Choo.

Any underwear tips for our brides to be?

Make sure whatever underwear you get for the day is comfortable. I would recommend buying a couple of options well in advance and wearing them a couple of times to make sure they will work for you on the day. Once you’ve found the underwear you are happy with buy yourself a new set so you don’t feel like you’re wearing old underwear on the day you get married!

If you could give brides-to-be one piece of solid advice?

Relax and enjoy the day. As cliché as it sounds the day really does fly and is over before you know it. Make sure to savour all the moments big and small from the minute you wake up. After the year and a half we’ve all had it really felt very special to be able to have our wedding day surrounded by close friends and family.

Who did your hair, make up and photography?

Karen & Linda of Shampoo Hair Salon did my hair. I’ve been going to them for years and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my hair! My makeup was done by the wonderful Martha Mulconry of Make up by Martha and Ted Murphy was our fantastic photographer.

How did you find your experience at The White and Gold?

It surpassed all my expectations of what I had envisaged wedding dress shopping to be. It was such a lovely, relaxed experience and an experience every bride should have! The shop itself is stunning and the selection and condition of the dresses is incredible.

Aww, thanks Maddie – we loved having you as one of our effortlessly cool W&G brides
